PRINCE GEORGE – A $5,000 grant from Hosting BC will help with bringing the BC Section Figure Skating Championships to Prince George from Nov. 6-9, announced Prince George MLAs Shirley Bond and Mike Morris.
“It’s great to have sporting events of this calibre here in Prince George,” Prince George-Valemount MLA Shirley Bond said. “This is a fantastic opportunity for our skaters to develop their skill.”
“Hosting BC grants help make staging these types of competitions more affordable, bringing great events, such as the BC Section Figure Skating Championships to our region,” Prince George-Mackenzie MLA Mike Morris said.
The Hosting BC program builds on the success of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. One of the goals of the program is to maintain British Columbia’s exceptional reputation as a sport hosting destination. Hosting BC provides grants for competitive events that range in scope from provincial to national to international levels.
The Government of B.C. invests in sport hosting opportunities through the Hosting BC program to assist communities with sport, economic, social and community development.
Established in 2004, the Hosting BC program has awarded more than $4.5 million to 560 events throughout B.C. Grants typically range from $1,000 to $15,000, depending on the level of competition (e.g. provincial, regional, national, international). Hosting BC funding is administered by ViaSport.
