PRINCE GEORGE – Prince George area school districts will be receiving $263,500 as part of over $11 million in B.C. government gaming grants for Parent Advisory Councils (PACs) and District Parent Advisory Councils (DPACs) working with public and independent schools throughout British Columbia.

PACs and DPACs play a key role in keeping parents connected to teachers and school administrators through positive, supportive involvement in the education provided to their children. The grants provide support for extracurricular activities, including sports, arts, class trips and other school activities.

Why this matters:

  • PACs and DPACs will share $11,121,840 in community gaming grant funding from the B.C. government this year.
  • A PAC is the officially recognized collective voice of parents of their school. A PAC, through its elected officers, may advise the school board, the principal and staff on matters relating to the school and student education.
  • DPACs advise the board of education on any matter relating to education in their school district. DPACs advocate for parental involvement in the education system and give input into the development of education policy and curricula.

Quotes:

Prince George-Mackenzie MLA Mike Morris

“Our PAC groups do a great job of developing extra curricular programs that meet the needs of our students. We are glad to work together to help deliver these grants and ultimately provide our kids with the best possible school experience.”

Prince George-Valemount MLA Shirley Bond

“We know that when parents are involved in their children’s education, students do better.  One of the important ways that parents support schools and students is by being active in their Parent Advisory Council.  These grants are provided to assist PACS and DPAC in the important work they do in schools right across our district.  Thank you to the parents that volunteer their time and make a difference for our students.”
